Depp is currently looking to rebuild his image as he
continues to battle Amber Heard in court. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor
recently had an interview with the British Newspaper The Times, where the actor
spoke about the issue that his loyal fans have been pointing at for years.
Depp’s film “Minamata’ has been frozen by MGM.
Depp and Heard’s legal fight has been a highly
publicized matter, Depp has not been too vocal about his situation with the
media. So, fans are wondering why the actor is talking about his issues now?
Depp, seems to believe that MGM is essentially refusing to publish his latest
project, a movie entitled “Minamata.”
The movie rights of “Minamata” were bought by MGM back
in October. During that time, it was said that it would have a February 2021
release date. But, MGM has since pushed back its release date stating, “because
of the pandemic.” Johnny Depp and the
movie director think there are other reasons regarding the movie’s release date
pushback.
Depp has waited long enough for MGM to release “Minamata,”
and that’s the reason why the actor went after the studio in a recent interview
where he said,
“We looked these people in the eyeballs and promised
we would not be exploitative. That the film would be respectful,” Talking about
the fact that the film wouldn’t feature Depp in situations that could be
reminiscent of his current legal battles. Depp went on to add, “I believe that we’ve
kept our end of the bargain, but those who came in later should also maintain
theirs.”
Earlier last week, there was another potential boycott
that Johnny Depp was facing. The actor was set to receive a lifetime achievement
award from a prestigious film festival in the San Sebastian region of Spain.
But, Spanish female filmmakers were not on board with the idea and threatened
to boycott the film festival because of Johnny Depp’s presence.
