Director James Wan took to his Instagram on Thursday and unveiled the title of Aquaman 2 is “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” Warner Bros. eventually confirmed this on Twitter.

Wan has been working on the film for a while now, and
his recent post makes it seem like the production is getting closer. Although
not much is known about the plot yet, beyond what we can gather from where the
first movie left off.
Jason Momoa will reprise his role as Arthur Curry aka
Aquaman, who is now the rightful King of Atlantis after he defeated his brother
Orm played by Patrick Wilson in the first movie. Also, Jason will be joined by
Amber Heard who plays Mera. Previous film’s end credits scene also teased that
Black Manta, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, might return as well, although
that has not been confirmed as of this writing. Dolph Lundgren, who played King
Nereus of the Xebellian people, also will be coming back.
An Aquaman poster came out, long time ago, that said “Unite
the Seven.” Fans thought that it was referring to the seven members of the
Justice League, however, what it really meant was the seven kingdoms of Atlantis:
Trench, Brine, Xebellian, the Fisherman Kingdom, the Atlanteans, the Deserters,
and a long-lost kingdom. So, this probably sounds even more than the first film,
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will revolve around Aquaman attempting to unite
all the kingdoms of the ocean, and learning more about why this particular
kingdom was considered lost as the name implies.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will arrive in theaters
on December 16th, 2022.
