According to sources that Wonka will mark the first
time Chalamet gets to show off his singing and dancing skills with several
music numbers expected to appear in the film. Chalamet has been the top choice
for some time but the scheduling was a challenge to be overcome as training for
those numbers is part in the preparation for this upcoming movie.
The new Wonka film will be directed by Paul King, from
the screenplay he co-wrote with Simon Farnaby. David Heyman via his Heyday
Films and Luke Kelly will be producing, along with Michael Siegel and Alexandra
Derbyshire who will executively produce.
Upcoming film is the third time WB has taken on the Willy
Wonka story, with previous versions being adaptations of Dahl’s classic novel
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Although the plot details of the movie is
yet to be revealed, the new pic will be an origin tale of the character and Charlie
Bucket will not be featured for the first time in this film.
For Chalamet, the Oscar nominee has avoided the tentpole
pic over the years with his upcoming Dune adaptation being his first true
venture into the genre. This movie will also give Chalamet, as well, a possible franchise
opportunity.
