Police found Rooks, 34, dead-on-the-spot with multiple gunshot wounds early Jan. 21, and they used security cameras from multiple residents for the investigation of the crime scene.

DeKalb County police said in a statement that the 23-year-old rapper whose legal name is Ricky Hawk was apprehended in that suburb of Atlanta. The police statement said he is detained in the county jail, charged with murder in connection with the Jan. 21 death of Frederick Rooks. The statement didn’t elaborate on the circumstances of the death or Hawk’s arrest.

According to the Journal Constitution, Ricky Hawk has more recently gotten in hot water with the law. Hawk was arrested twice in a week last April, for domestic violence and gun charges in California, was then apprehended again in DeKalb County in October for driving at more than 140 mph on I-85.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that Hawk was being detained without bond late Monday. It wasn't immediately proven if Hawk had a legal counsel who could comment for him. Hawk's manager did not immediately respond for comment Monday evening.
