(G)I-DLE is making a comeback with the release of their fourth mini-album, I Burn, on January 11th.
Their fourth album features six tracks that were
written, composed, and arranged by members Soyeon, Yugi, and Minnie. All the
tracks depicted the repercussion and final acceptance of a painful breakup. The
lead single, “HWAA,” is a moombahton track which compares a breakup to a bitter
winter that leaves someone’s heart covered in white snow. Instead of dwelling
on the pain of the past, the group sets fire to their memories so that they can
bloom again or fall in love in spring time.
Soyeon revealed that winter, fire, and flower are the
album’s key concepts, during the group’s press conference, which help complete its unique storyline of
pain, beauty, and personal growth. “Rather than delivering a message, we wanted
to share the sentiments of separation,” Soyeon explained. “Winter represents
how someone’s emotions become frozen cold because of a breakup, while ‘Fire’ is
the will to melt a frozen heart. ‘Flower’ is the new love that comes once we have
fully confronted of a breakup.”
